Sony PlayStation Network Is Down

Update Mar 2 – Sony Network issue is resolved.  Sony posted on it’s blog “We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year.” “Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.”

Update Mar 1 – 12:40 – Sony is Advising older PS3 users to stop playing while they resolve this issue.  The new slim PS3 is not affected.   

Sony blog idenifies the issue as follows:   “We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.” Sony also promise a fix in the next 24 hrs.

Sony Network and many PS3s are experienceing connection problems.  Sony confirmed this issue and said that they are working on resolving.

It appears to have only affect pre-Slim PlayStation 3 models. The new Slim PS3 models are unaffected by the problem. Jeff Rubenstein PlayStation media manager said, “We have narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service.
