Amazon Kindle Event will be held today at 10:30 PDT/ 12:30 pm EST today from Santa Monica.

The new Kindle Fire will be introduced today, will the new Kindle still resemble the BlackBerry PlayBook or will it have a new look?

Office Max To Sell Kindle

Office Max will begin selling Amazon Kindle eReader on Aug 7. The 6-inch Kindle can access more than 950,000 books.

Ryan Vero, Office Max Exec V.P. and Chief Merchandiser released the following statement, “Office Max is trilled to be working with Amazon to offer Kindle and its related accessories to our customers. “Kindle is a highly innovative and versatile reader that brings our customers new ways to access and enjoy books and news.”

Amazon launch Textbook Rental for the Kindle.

The rental is flexible and affordable.  The minimum rental is 30 day and you can save up to 80% off the print list price.  Extensions are granted after the 30 days, you can extend as long as you need and can only be 1 day, you just have to pay for the additional day(s).

Once the Textbooks is rented you can read on any of the following:  PC, MAC, Kindle or your Mobile Device.

Kindle Software Update 3.1

Kindle v3.1 update will feature the following:

  • Public Notes – Users can share their notes and highlights on passages of the book.
  • Real Page Numbers – Kindle page numbers will match print book page numbers for easy reference and to read alongside others in book club or class.
  • Before You Go – At the end of the book you can rate the book and share a message with your social network about the book.
  • Newspaper and Magazine Layout – New and improved layout for newspapers and magazines; gives a quick snapshot so you can decide what you want to read first.

Amazon Launches 2 Kindles

Amazon launches its 3rd generation Kindle e-reader.   The Wi-Fi only Kindle retails for $139.  The Free 3G + Wi-Fi Kindle retails for $189. 

The new Kindles have a faster processor, twice as much storage storing 3,500 books, 21% smaller and maintains its 6 inch screen. The Kindles launch date is scheduled for Aug 27, they are available now for Pre-Order.
