Satya Nadella Named Microsoft CEO

Microsoft names Satya Nadella as MS third CEO. Satya Nadella is 46 years old and has worked at Microsoft since 1992. Nadella previously held the position of Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group.

Founder Bill Gates steps down as Chairman of The Board and assume a new role on the Board as Founder and Technology Advisor and will devote more time to the company.

John W.Thompson
will replaced Bill Gates as The Chairman of The Board of Directors and remain an Independent director on the Board. John Thompson is a former VP at IBM and the former CEO of Symantec Corporation.

Windows XP Support Will End In 365 Days

Windows XP Support Will End In 365 Days

Microsoft will end support for Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 on April 7, 2014.

Microsoft released Windows XP in 2001. XP will become a security risk without updates, MS will release patches to fix problems. However, analyst firm Gardner is reporting that custom support will be available to those willing to pay between $200,000 and $500,000 a year.  Gartners also warns that customer support “can as much as double [in price] from year to year as the product moves further away from the end of support.”

Microsoft Internet Explorer Zero-Day Patch

We reported the Microsoft Internet Explorer Flaw on Sept 17.  MS released Security Update MS12-063 an emergency security to eliminated the IE zero-day bug that has attacked computers through vulnerability in IE 9.  This security update is rated Critical for Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8, and Internet Explorer 9.

MS Trustworthy Computing director Yunsun Wee released the following statement, “The majority of customers have automatic updates enabled and will not need to take any action because protections will be downloaded and installed automatically.  For those manually updating, we encourage you to apply this update as quickly as possible.  For more on MS Security Update MS12-063 Click Here.

Free Microsoft Products For Employees

Steve Ballmer revealed at Microsoft’s annual employee meeting that Microsoft will give it employees a new Surface RT Tablet to use at home and work, A new WindowsPC (Desktop, Laptop, Ultrabook, or Tablet) and a Windows Phone 8 device to use at home or work.  Employees are calling this the “Oprah Treatment”.

The more than 90,000 full-time employees direct employees (known as “Blue Badges”) will receive the tablet and phone by late December.
