Netflix is now available for the PlayBook. The app Flix will allow PlayBook users to stream Netflix movies to their device.
Although the Flix app isn’t an official NetFlix app. The stream will transmit the stream from your PC to your PlayBook via a shared Wi-Fi connection. The requirments are listed below:
- Your BlackBerry PlayBook must be on the same Wi-Fi network as your computer
- Flix requires approximately 5 Mbps transfer speed between your PC and BlackBerry PlayBook.
- When you are watching a Netflix movie on your BlackBerry PlayBook, the computer’s audio is redirected to your BlackBerry PlayBook.
- Windows Only – Mac is not supported
- Player Controls – Pause or Rewind are not available on the BlackBerry PlayBook
Netflix launched new UI for Android tablets. The new UI will display twice as many movies and tv titles, the UI will have larger art covers and users will be able to scroll through titles quickly.
Neil Hunt Netflix Chief Product Officer said, “In the last 12 months we have seen a threefold increase in how long Netflix members are watching on their tablets,” noting that the company wanted to introduced the redesigned UI in time for Kindle Fire and Nook Tables. The new UI is free and is available in the Android Market.
The iPad update will be available in a few weeks.
Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO announced that Netflix will be restructured. Netflix will be splitting into two companies; DVD and Streaming Video business. Hasting stated, “We realized that streaming and DVD by mail are becoming two quite different businesses.” He also said that is being done to win back customers trust.
Netflix DVD by mail will become Qwikster. Qwikster will also offer Video Games for rent: Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360.
Hasting also stated that the company realized that DVD by mail and Streaming had become two different businesses; in terms of cost, different benefits and marketing. The two companies need to grow and operate independently.
Qwikster will launch in a few weeks. Qwikster means quick delivery.
Netflix begins it video streaming service in Brazil today. Netflix plans to expand into 43 countries throughout South America, Latin America and the Caribbean by September 12.
Netflix will add service to Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay on Wednesday then expand to Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, Central America and Caribbean with a week.
The service will cost 14.99 Brazilian real per month ($9 USD) for new subscribers and the 1st month free.
